::8 Months::

Well, in true Annie fashion, I am a week late on this post. But, to my credit, this past week was one of the busiest we have had since Lola was born. Heck, pretty much this whole month was busy. But last week we had 3 Thanksgiving celebrations with our families, and I was the MOH in my cousin's wedding, all with a BABY! Phew, it was a big week, but a fun one too.

Anyways, Lola turned 8 months on Thanksgiving day! I know I am going to shock you all when I say this, but this month flew by. I know, right?! What an original phrase to use on my blog! But I'm sorry, I can't help it that time flies faster than I knew possible.

So, some highlights from this month:

-CRAWLING! Lots and lots of crawling! It is more of an army crawl at this point, but don't let that fool you--sister is fast! Here's a video to document her progress.

-Stilllll working on those top 2 teeth, but they are seriously about to pop through. Like, hopefully in the next couple days. Please, God, let in be in the next few days!!

- Lola was in her first wedding. She was my cousin Catherine's "flower baby" and she did great:). Like I mentioned above, I was the MOH, so I got to carry her down the aisle. A special moment for sure.

- We found out Lola is going to have a new baby GIRL cousin, due April 3rd, 2012! Jono's brother, Josh, and his wife, Lauren, will give us our first girl cuz. My due date was April 1st (though she was born on March 24th), so it looks like they'll be almost exactly a year apart. Yay!

- Lola got to "trick-or-treat" (not really) for the first time this Halloween. She was the cutest pumpkin I've ever seen.

-We celebrated Lola's 1st Thanksgiving (3x's) in Plano, East Texas, AND Arlington! We tend to make the rounds on Holidays:).

-SLEEEEEP! Lola has been sleeping anywhere from 12-14 hours a night, and taking 2 two hour naps a day, although it can vary from day to day. But I am very thankful! (ps--this was one of the things I prayed for when I was pregnant with her. Was that selfish?;))

-She has started to pull-up this month. Though she's not a pro at it yet, she's getting better everyday. It's definitely time to baby-proof!

-Lola's "busy-ness" has increased tenfold this month. She is ALWAYS on the go! Gone are the days when she just used to sit politely on my lap. She is constantly reaching for something, squirming around, trying to get down, trying to get picked up, and looking to get into anything that I DON'T want her to get into. Welcome to the next phase, mommy! However, her developments have also increased tenfold this month, and it is so fun to watch her transform into a "big girl" :). She has been blowing my mind lately!

I think those are the main highlights from the month, though it seems I always forget something. She is still our happy, healthy, giggly, curious little girl that we are CRAZY about! Our love grows more for her everyday. Just when we think our hearts are maxed out, they expand. We love you baby girl!

I'm obsessed with metallic paint, part 2....and 3

Another post that is not about my precious little nugget munch! (Seriously, where do I get these nicknames??) I'm getting crazy over here at my blog, peoples. So, if you read THIS post, then you know about my recent liking to these metallic paints I bought at Hobby Lobby. Well, after the successful dining room project, I decided to take my metallic paint elsewhere in my house.

My husband and I have been thinking about our backsplash in our kitchen for quite some time now, but haven't really wanted to spend the $$$ on all the tile, grout, labor, etc. to get it done. Soooo I had this idea! Why not use that beautiful metallic paint on the backsplash and give ourselves a nice, new, (cheaper) original-looking backsplash! I cannot believe how it transformed our kitchen. It was a little hard to JUST paint the backsplash because they it leads into some of our kitchen walls (see below), so I ended up painting those walls too--and I love it. Makes me wonder how I lived with those awful white walls for so long.

Take a look at the pics and I hope you'll agree it's a nice improvement!

Ta-dah!! What do you think?? It warms up our kitchen so much, and I really think it is an easy solution for a kitchen lacking a backsplash. Oh, and FYI, this is the same brand of paint I used in the dining room, but this color is called Champagne Gold. LOVE!

And while I was at Hobby Lobby picking up the paint, I started looking for something for this other project I've had floating around in my head for a while. I've been wanting to make a cute coat rack to go by our front door where I had blank wall space.

So I purchased this:

And turned it into this:

I used the leftover paint from the dining room to paint the wood, and purchased one piece of $0.99 of ADORABLE scrapbook paper and glued it in the center. Turned out pretty cute, right?

Oh, and I painted the frame too:). It used to be black, now it is champagne.

Ok, and ONE MORE recent project I have to share because it was just so easy!! I had this wall in my guest bedroom that I've been meaning to improve/update. So, I went to Michaels and bought 4 frames on sale for $5 each, and 4 pieces of really cute scrapbook paper (again), and made this! Love the way adds some cheer to the room!

Peaceful?

Let's be honest, us moms can often end up spending a lot of time in our homes. Sometimes the hassle of getting together bottles, diapers, toys, burp cloths, etc., and working around nap times, can discourage us from venturing out of our houses, causing us to sit at home watching trashy daytime TV. But there is only so much of that we can do before we go crazy. So we often find ourselves seeking solace in places like Super Target just so we can get out of the house and maintain our sanity. And we treasure those times, right? We look forward to that car ride to the grocery store so we can zone out, listen to music, and find a little peace.

But recently our car rides have sounded a little more like this:

Peaceful, right??

Any mom's out there got any suggestions for how to keep a baby happy back there while driving?? I miss my peaceful times in the car!

DIY Home Project

Can you believe it?? I am actually going to write a post where I DON'T talk abut my child!! But just for good measure: Lola is the cutest little nugget on the planet! Ok, I'm done. Wait, one more thing-- for the past 2 weeks she has been sleeping til at least 9:30am!! That's 13.5 hours straight, y'all. She definitely has some Hinckley genes in her.

Ok, now for my real post. As a stay-at-home mom, I have been DYING to flex my creative muscle lately, especially towards decorating my home. Decorating is one of my FAVORITE things to do in this world. In fact, one of my hobbies is sitting down with a cup of tea and browsing through home goods store catalogs or decorating magazines and dream about all the things I would do to my home if only I had a money tree in my backyard. Because unfortunately, it usually entails spending a bunch of money so I have been "fasting" from decorating lately:).

But every once in a while, I'll dream up something I can do that doesn't break the bank. Heck, it barely even chips it. And this happened to me yesterday...

There are certain areas of my home that have been, eh hem, "neglected". Meaning they kind of got ignored when we first moved in, and I haven't really thought much about them since. Too busy I suppose. Anyways, lately I have been working on going back through those "neglected" places in my house to see how I can spruce them up in an affordable way. My dining area was one of these places. See, for months now I have been thinking about painting the backs of my built-in "china hutch", but couldn't decide on what exactly I wanted to do. All I could think of was how I wanted something a tad metallic, but wasn't sure how to make it work. I started brainstorming when I couldn't sleep Monday night and came up with an image in my head that I wasn't sure if it existed. So imagine my surprise when I found THIS online at Hobby Lobby! It was exactly what I was looking for.

So here is what I did with it...

Built-in hutch BEFORE (forgot to take one with all the stuff on it, oops)

BEFORE

AFTER (without decorations)

AFTER up-close (you can really see the shimmer here)

AFTER with decorations! (please excuse the ugly wire cabinet doors. That is another project for another day...)

AFTER up-close. I actually updated some of my decor as well. Hobby Lobby had 50% off mirrors yesterday so I purchased this mirror and used it as a tray to set out some of my pretty glasses that were previously hiding in the cabinet. LOVE!

I fell SO in LOVE with this paint that I started brainstorming other ways I could use it in my house...and then it hit me. There is a spot above the love seat in our living room that I have been looking for a painting or wall art for some time now. But everything I liked was too expensive! So I decided to get crafty. I purchased THIS stencil, also from Hobby Lobby, and painted a pattern on the wall! I love the way it turned out and it was soooo much cheaper than purchasing a painting, or something of that nature.

I am so happy with the way everything turned out yesterday! And I especially love that the paint was only $7.99, and I didn't even use the whole jar. Gotta love sprucing up your space for next to nothin'!

Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to go see where else I can use this paint in my house... ;)

Lil' Punkin'

Here is our punkin' on Halloween! (I warned you that we use the word punkin' a lot when referring to Lola:))

Getting posed pictures is A LOT harder these days! Sister is BUSY!

And here is a pic of me and my cousins Brian & Brenda with their punkin's before trick or treating. It was a popular costume choice!

Hope everyone had a fun Halloween!

::7 Months::

Um, what? Are you kidding me? I know I sound like a broken record, but I SWEAR this time that this month serrrrriously flew by. Like, barely even blinked, maybe half of a blink, and Lola is 7 months old. UN. REAL!

I don't know if we are just getting more in the swing of things, or if Lola truly is just getting more amazing by the day, but I L-O-V-E-D this month. And I have a hunch that this next month will be even better. Lola is a true gem-- just so happy, giggly, cuddly, smiley, and wonderful. Her personality comes out more and more everyday, and it gives this mama sooooo much joy. Like whoah. Am I getting too cheesey? Probably. Sorry. I can't help myself.

So anyways, Lola has still been sleeping a mind-blowingly amazing 12 hours at night. Usually from 8pm-8am, but sweet little girl is so flexible that she'll pretty much sleep 12 hours from whatever time we put her down. We happened to have an excess of events this week (like one every night), and I have to say that she did exceptionally well. We obviously had later bed times this week due to all the partying, but she handled the change very well and gave us very little fuss and slept the same amount at night. For example, she didn't get down until 10pm on Saturday night b/c of my cousin's wedding shower, and she woke up at 10:15 am the next morning!! Thank you punkin'!

Speaking of nicknames, mine for her are getting OUT OF CONTROL. And they usually include the word "punkin' " in them. Here are some, but not even all, of my recent nicknames for her: punkin' bottom, punkin' brains, punkin' booty, punkin' pie, punkin' pants, precious poo poo, doodle bug, love buggy, sugar butt, need I go on or are you sufficiently embarrassed for me yet? Yeah, I thought so...

She has gotten MUCH better with her baby foods this month. She eats solids 2 x's a day now, and it is so much easier and less stressful than last month. And, thank goodness, she will now eat pretty much anything. We added a few new things this month like chicken, turkey, corn, mixed berries, and more. She still eats 4x's a day, and will take 6-7oz of formula at each feeding as well.

At Lola's 6 month doc appointment, we found out that she is in the 90th percentile for weight and 92nd for height!! That is a BIG change from her one month appointment when she was in the 5th percentile. It is crazy how everything really does work itself out, because I was pretty emotional when we had a slow start at the beginning. But I think it's safe to say she's growing now!

Her other tooth popped through this month, so she has 2 teeth on the bottom! It seems like we may have some others working their way through right now, but I guess we'll see!

Lola still only says "da da", but I have been hearing some "b" syllables occasionaly, and rarely, but still sometimes, an "m". Still waiting for that mama word...

And crawling does seem to be right around the corner! She now gets up on her knees and rocks when I lay her on her stomach, which I know happens just before they start crawling. We better get to baby-proofing, eeek!

Lola has now been consistently taking 2 naps a day, usually 2 hours each which pretty much makes her schedule as follows:

8am-wake up and eat
8:15-9:45--play
10am-noon- nap
12pm--wake up and eat
12:15-1:45pm- play
2:00-4:00pm- nap
4:00-7:00pm--play
7:15-7:45pm--eat some solids and bath time
8:00pm- bottle and bed time

It's pretty great! No complaints here! I can only imagine all the new things I'll blog about next month--I have a feeling they'll involve crawling and more talking.

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the Lord for giving us this most precious gift. I never imagined how our lives would be blessed through her, but she is the sweetest thing to us. Words cannot express.

"See ya mom! I'm wayyy too busy for this!"

::6 Months::

I have a 6 month old?!?! No way that is possible. Time continues to fly by and Lola continues to grow and change so much!

This month was probably our biggest month as far as changes go. It seems that so many things finally started clicking this month making life a little bit "easier". One of the biggest changes this month was that I am done with breastfeeding! Woo hoo! I never thought (before I had Lola) that I would be so excited for this day to come, but I so am. Of course, I didn't get to have the "magical" experience that most moms get to have since I had to basically have a relationship with my pump instead of my daughter, so maybe that has something to do with it. But I couldn't be happier that I made it 6 months--that was my goal!

So Lola is now on formula and is doing great! It has really been a blessing. Thanks to the switch, she now only eats 6oz. 4 times a day (8am, 12pm, 4pm, 8pm) and sleeps from 8pm-8am with NO dreamfeed! Yes, we were able to drop the 10:30pm dreamfeed, and that is A-mazing. It has really freed up our nights and allowed Jono and I to spend more time together, because once she is out, she is OUT...and doesn't wake up until around 8am! It makes such a HUGE difference in our lives and I am so pleased.

She also started eating some solids this month. We started with rice cereal and worked our way through different fruits and veggies. She is not really a fan of rice cereal or oatmeal, and the only way she'll eat SOME of it is if it's mixed with fruit. And even then, not so much. She eats best at night time right before bed. So far her fav is definitely the butternut squash, apple, and oat mixture! She has had sweet potatoes, pears, bananas, peaches, blueberries, apples, carrots, and peas. We are still trying to figure out what works best for her, so hopefully we have it figured out by next month. But at least no allergies so far!

Lola takes between 2-3 naps a day each lasting from 1.5 -2 hours. She is a good little sleeper and that is a good little blessing. I just lay her in her crib with her paci (she still LOVES her paci) and she puts herself to sleep. Good baby!

Lola has cut one tooth, and has another one about to pop through (although I'm pretty sure both of these appeared AFTER her 6 month bday, technically). They are both on the bottom middle. I, like most parents, would agree that the teething process is NOT fun and I wish it didn't exist. It definitely makes Lola fussy and uncomfortable, and it's a miracle how much better things get once that little guy pops through the gums.

All in all though, Lola is a very happy baby that smiles A LOT. Strangers are always so blown away that she smiles at them (all of them), and I have to pretend like that doesn't happen every single time! I don't want them to feel less special or anything:).

Lola is not quite sitting up all by herself yet, but she is getting close. And still no signs of crawling yet--which I am happy about!

Her new favorite word is "da da" and she says it almost all day long everyday. It is so adorable and I love it. The "b" and "m" syllables haven't come around yet, but I can't wait for the day she says mama!

She has figured out how to put her feet in her mouth and now does this ALL the time! She also knows how to put her paci back in her mouth on her own, which is amazing!! Makes nap times and sleeping much easier:).

She typically wears size 6-12 month clothes and size 3 diapers.

We count even our hardest days as truly joyful because of Lola. We are so in love!

5 Months

Let's just go ahead and say that if I ever DO get these month posts up on time, it will be the exception, not the rule, k?:)

On August 24th, Lola turned 5 months old! It seems like every time I complete one of these posts, it's time to do the next one! Time is really flying, and Lola is really growing and changing so much. One of the biggest things that happened this month was that my baby girl became a stomach sleeper! I couldn't believe it the first time I saw it, and it made me paranoid. I think I checked on her like 12 times the first night she did it. But the crazy thing is, she sleeps so much better on her stomach! She doesn't stay there all night long, but she spends the majority of the night on her stomach. So precious:).

We had a pretty good month of sleep, too. Generally, she would sleep 10-12 hours at night, and take 4 naps a day: 2 two hour naps, and 2 one hour naps. There were definitely days that were longer, and definitely days that were shorter, but you get the idea.

We had our first "sickness" this month, where Lola got a skin infection on her face. Not too pretty, but she is much better now. Poor baby:(

She still eats 5-6oz every 3-4 hours, and weighed in around 16 1/2 lbs. at 5 months. She is such a good eater and I can't believe that by my next monthly post, she will most likely be eating solids! Crazy!

We did a good amount of swimming this month at Fancy & Paco's, too. I wouldn't say Lola "loves" the water, but she more so tolerates it for our sake. She's sweet like that:). But what a cutie she is in her swimsuit!

All in all it has been another great month filled with lots of smiles, laughs, hugs, chats, and snuggles. We love this little girl so much it hurts. Happy 5 months baby girl! We love you!

Lola Talks

I took this video about a month ago, but it gives you an idea of the conversations we have around here. She can be very vocal and I love this sweet voice!

Flashback

So I just realized that I never posted this picture. This pic was taken the NIGHT before my water broke. You can't get much more "pregnant" than this! We were about to head to dinner at Vapiano's with our good friends Abby & Logan Misegades. I had NO idea that this would be our last date night before baby, but needless to say, I'm so glad we went!! It was such a fun night, and now I am so sad that Abby & Logan are moving to FRANCE a week from tomorrow, EEEEEEK!! We will miss them terribly, but are so excited for their adventure together. We were talking last night about how crazy it is that the next time they see Lola, she will be walking and talking! So crazy!

Lola will miss Aunt Abby & Uncle Logan!

Oh, and just to make me a little depressed this morning, here is my first "showing" picture I took. I was about 12 weeks pregnant in this picture.

Please excuse the no makeup, nasty hair, and no shirt, but it cracks me up that this was my first "showing" picture. Pretty sure I am "showing" more than that now, BUMMER!!!

::4 Months::

On July 24th, Lola Kate turned 4 months old! Could time be flying any faster?? Absolutely not. Let me just go ahead and sum up this past month for you in 2 words: growth. spurt. Lola has been growing like a weed lately, and if you don't believe me, let me just prove it to you. We went to the doc on Monday for our 4 month appointment, and between 2 months (our last appointment) and 4 months, Lola went from 15% in weight to 75%!! Here are her newest stats:

Weight: 14 lbs, 10 oz-- 75%
Length: 24 1/2"-- 75%
Head: 16 1/4 -- 60%

Not the itty bitty peanut she once was! What has made the difference? Giving up nursing to pump and bottle feed exclusively, which I am still doing by the way. Not an easy task, but I just keep telling myself to go a little bit longer, and so I do. If I make it to 6 months I will give myself one large pat on the back. We shall see...

So as you can imagine, that big of a growth spurt has not made this past month so easy. Her hunger was almost insatiable at times, and that meant lots of getting up in the middle of the night, which I was not used to. She had been sleeping so well for so long that it was a big shock to me. But after seeing her growth progress in percentages on Monday, I totally get why she needed to eat in the middle of the night! But thankfully, she has started sleeping through the night again, and that makes for one happy and rested mama. She has been going down between 8-9pm and sleeping til 8-9am. A miracle for any mother to experience!

She eats 5-6oz every 2 1/2-3 hours, except in the middle of the night of course. I wake her up to dream feed her around 10pm, put her right back down and she is out!

This month Lola has begun to laugh BIG TIME! It is the absolute best noise in the world. She is still smiling like crazy, and is seriously one of the happiest babies. She makes life so much fun. I can't imagine life without her, now that I know life with her. Here is a video of her laughing. I have been trying to upload videos lately, but they never work. Hoping it does this time! (And if you have any pointers for me on how to do this, please pass them along:))

Rolling over has become a FREQUENT occurrence. She can roll over over both ways, but has a harder time remembering that she knows how to roll from stomach to back. So it usually goes down like this: lay her on her back, immediately roll to stomach, cry and fuss because she hates being on her stomach, roll her back onto her back, and repeat the whole process again. It cracks me up b/c she CAN roll the other way, but she just forgets to try! The other day she rolled to her tummy, had some tummy time, and then FELL ASLEEP and took a nap on her tummy!! That was a definite first and hasn't happened again since. Too cute!

Talking has also been a frequent occurrence lately. Hearing her talk to herself is such a precious sound and one of my favorite things she does. She is very vocal!

Lola started wearing size 1 diapers this month, but then QUICKLY moved on to size 2. What a bummer! I'll be saving all the extra size 1 diapers for the next one, I suppose. She is definitely out of all of her newborn clothes, and even the 0-3 month clothes are snug. She is mainly wearing 3-6 month clothes, and those are perfect because they have a little extra room for her.

Lola went swimming for the first time this month! My mom bought her a floaty with a cover on it to block out the sun. She definitely didn't complain about the water, but she didn't seem that into it either. I am sure next summer will be a BIG difference, and we will be using Fancy & Paco's (my parents') pool everyday.

So in summary, this month has been another exceptionally happy one with lots to be thankful for. Lola seems to be getting busier and busier by the day, so even though we got the one decent picture above, most of the pictures looked more like this:

Gotta love her!!

Lola :: 3 Months Old!

Well, I am just about a week late on this post, but nonetheless, Lola is still 3 months old! Another month has come and gone and what a month it has been! This has been our most eventful month thus far with the most changes. It has been so much fun!! Lola has been smiling like crazy, talking, holding her head up, starting to roll over, and gained THREE pounds this month!! She went from 8 1/2 to 11 1/2 lbs between 2 and 3 months. And that, my friends, is a LOT of weight for a young baby. So I think it's safe to say we've gotten her eating under control. Unfortunately for me, that means I had to give up nursing, and stick with pumping and bottle feeding exclusively. It took 2 lactation consultants, a bunch of money, and a LOT of time to find out that little missy is not so good with the nursing. It has definitely been an emotional roller coaster for me, as this is not what I pictured for us, but I know that you can't control everything and I've really had to surrender this one up to the Lord. And after some time has passed, I really am OK with it. Not my first choice, but still, OK.

So anyways, back to the happy stuff. Lola has been eating 4-5 oz every 3 hours this month. Her appetite has REALLY kicked it up a notch, and a lot of times she can't even make it to 3 hours. This is a BIG change from last month, and the month before, but it is so great to see her putting on some weight. She finally has those adorable chubby baby cheeks and thighs. I swear she is growing by the minute and if you go a few days without seeing her you almost won't recognize her! I am doing my best to put on every outfit she has because I know it won't be long before she's outgrown it!

Lola graduated from NB to size 1 diapers this month (whoop whoop!), and is wearing ALL different sizes of clothes. She can still wear some newborn clothes, but is also wearing 0-3 month clothes, and a few 3-6 month things, too. Since I am about a week late on this post, she now weighs almost 12 1/2 pounds, whoa mama!! Her hunger is a lot to keep up with!

As far as her "schedule" goes, it is still not set in stone. She usually wakes up around 6am, eats every 2 1/2-3 hours, has awake time after each feeding, and then sleeps after her awake time until her next feeding. I am still working on set nap times, but honestly, that is easier said than done. She sleeps good in her crib at night, but as far as naps in her crib...eh. Those usually don't last longer than 30-45 min. Now if I put her in her swing, well she'll sleep 2-3 hours!! I have been really struggling with this this month because I don't want to start a bad habit of only sleeping in her swing, but she just doesn't nap well in her crib. If I just have too much to do one day and need a little time to myself, I'll put her in the swing and enjoy the "me" time:). But usually, I try to resist the temptation of always sticking her in her swing. Ahh, the decisions of a mom...

Like I mentioned, Lola transitioned into her crib this month! This was very sad for mom because I LOVED having her in our room. I just really liked knowing she was close by. So this was hard for me. And the transition was not as smooth for her as I would have hoped either. She got really used to the basinet and wasn't keen on the flatness of her crib mattress. So in order to help her make the transition, we put the basinet (it's the kind that you attach to the Pack-n-Play) in the crib for the time being. She has slept much better since doing this. We have also had the battle of the swaddle. To swaddle or not to swaddle? We had a few nights where she woke up because she was trying to bust out of her swaddle, but if we don't swaddle her, she wakes herself up too! So we have been trying to figure out what works best here. Stay tuned:).

During her awake times, she has been loving playing with her activity gym, taking baths, going on walks, sitting in her bumbo, or just laying on a blanket and talking! She's too much fun right now! She is REALLY trying to roll over lately, but hasn't quite made it yet. It's so cute to watch her try.

We also had our first vacationtogether this month! We rented a house in Rosemary Beach, Florida with my parents, Jono's parents, my brothers (all of them!), my aunt & uncle, and cousins! It was soooo nice and relaxing and I definitely enjoyed all the help:). We actually flew there so Lola got to enjoy her first plane ride--she did GREAT! She didn't make a peep and was a hit with the other passengers, of course.

Sleeping on the plane

We also got to meet one of Lola's future BFF's this month! On May 25th, Payton Anne Scmidt was born, and 3 weeks later, we got to head over to Trophy Club to meet her:). Though they weren't able to play together just yet, I know they'll be having tea parties and playing dress up in no time!

We got to celebrate our FIRST Father's day this month, too. Lola has no idea how lucky she is to have Jono as her daddy. I can't wait to watch the 2 of them together as Lola grows up. She wore her "My Daddy Rocks" onsie on Father's Day that I bought in Canton right after I found out I was having a girl. And, of course, she looked adorable:).

All in all, this month has been amazing. I get so completely overwhelmed by my love for her sometimes. I literally love her so much it hurts. I am constantly thanking the Lord for bringing her into our lives. I feel so humbled that the Lord chose us to be her parents. She brings so much joy to my life, a joy I never knew before. Thank you Jesus for this sweet baby girl!
